Introduction to Me

My name is Lauren Murphy and I am 20 years old. I live in Castleknock and have 4 people in my family including myself.

My favourite class last semester was Design Process and Practice. I have a big interest in graphic design and I really enjoyed learning about the principles and rules of design.
My goals for this module are to improve my blog writing skills and successfully create a video game.

During Summer I went on holiday to The Philippines. I travelled for 22 hours to Manila, where I stayed for 4 days. I then flew to Boracay and Cebu. Each place was amazing and different in their own way. I met a lot of people who were travelling alone around Asia. After listening to some people's experiences, I have decided I will definitely go back to Asia next summer.

I also went to Hungary this Summer. Some of my friends were interrailing around Europe so I met them in Budapest for 4 days. I went to the famous Baths and also went on a boat party down the canal.

My favourite TV show at the moment is Peaky Blinders. I began watching it about 2 weeks ago and I am already on the last season. Peaky Blinders is set in Birmingham, England in 1919, several months after the end of the First World War in November 1918. The story centres on the Peaky Blinders gang and their ambitious boss Tommy Shelby.
Image 2:  My friends & I at Life Festival

My favourite type of music is disco/house. I also listen to techno and pop music. I went to two music festivals this Summer. I went to Life Festival in May where I saw loads of Djs, including; Green Velvet,  MK, I Hate Models and Boots & Kats. Boots & Kats are one of my favourite artists and I have seen them twice. I'm going to see them again in two weeks time in the new District 8 in Swords. I also went to Electric Picnic with my friends in September. I saw Florence and The Machine, Billie Eilish, Tommy Holohan and many more artists at it.

I used to play hockey for my school and club, St.Brendan's Phoenix Park, but quit during the leaving cert. I hope to pick up the sport again because I really love it.

  8. Hey Lauren!

Wow your summer sounded so interesting! Did you travel around ASIA yourself or with your family? That picture you included in this blog makes me want to go to Boracay Beach just for that sunset! How was Budapest? I'd love to visit there too.

  9. Hi Lauren,

I had a lot of fun reading your introduction! It really seems like you had one hell of a summer, I'm quite jealous, I spent most of mine working. I had tickets to two festivals and had to sell both of them because my job wouldn't let me have the time off. But I did go to Spain for a week with a few of my friends. The travelling was definitely not 22 hours though! I don't know how you did it.

Anyway, I look forward to reading more of your blog!

I enjoyed reading your blog and learning about you! I'm really envious of your travels to Asia- an Asia tour is something I'd absolutely love to do but unfortunately I dont have the finances to but I really hope to in the future.
I haven't met anyone who plays hockey before so that's really interesting! I'm not too much into sport myself but I hope you get back into it soon.

Its interesting you bring up the bathes in Hungary, I have been to them before myself and I really found them to be welcoming and great places to go to. I haven't heard of the rappers you have mentioned but I might listen to them myself someday. I look forward to the rest of your blog.

Game Idea Research

Game Idea Research Hi again! After brainstorming a few ideas for my game, I have decided I'm going to stick to an adventure style. As I've said before in previous blog posts, I gained a lot of inspiration from the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro series. The user of the game will be able to walk around a virtual world. They can collect gems which will add to their score. There will also be different type of keys hidden around the world. Each key will unlock another part of the world to explore. Once the player unlocks an area, they will have to fight small creatures that are walking around. As the players score increases, their strength will increase. This allows the player to fight tougher opponents as the game goes on. The player's health will take a toll if hit by a creature they are fighting. The aim of the game is to beat the creatures and collect all the keys to unlock the entire world.  Image 1:   Minecraft Virtual World I hope to learn enough s

Game Brainstorm

Game Brainstorm Game 1:  My first game idea is to create an adventure game. As I said before, in blog about my favourite video game, Crash Bandicoot was my number one. A game similar to this would be ideal. There would be one character travelling through worlds, collecting objects and fighting villains. Other games similar to this are Ratchet And Clank and Spyro. I like the idea of the player having their own character and being free to travel around the world they're in. After watching some Unity tutorials, I have gathered knowledge on how to create the basis of these games. I have a lot more to learn, but I am looking forward to broadening my skills. Image 1: Crash Bandicoot  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7G91RjVmvk Game 2:  The second type of game idea I came up with is a racing video game. I've taken inspiration from the playstation game "Micro Machines" and Nintendo game "Mario Kart". The game would have both multiplayer and solo options
