Unity Tutorial 02

Unity Tutorial  Hey welcome back to my blog! In this blog I will be talking about the first Unity tutorial I completed since we got back. I enjoyed this tutorial a lot more than last semesters. I think the talking was slightly more engaging and the text under each step was very useful. My memory of Unity needed to be refreshed after the long break and this tutorial certainly did the trick.  Screenshot of Unity In lesson 1.1 I set up the project and imported assets. I then positioned the vehicle, obstacle and camera within the scene. All of this was fairly straight forward. I also looked over the project, hierarchy and inspector windows.  In lesson 1.2, I moved the vehicle down the road at a constant speed using C # Script. I also learned how to get the obstacles to fly into the air when hit by the vehicle. In the last lesson (1.3), I set the camera to follow the vehicle down the road. I found the script slightly difficult during this part as I kept ...

Reading 2

Hello and welcome back to my blog! After a long break we are finally back and this semester we are writing a book! I'm excited to be able to say I was apart of a published book. This week we have been preparing research strategies for each of our chapters. The topics within my chapter that I will be researching are; 1. Layouts 2. Level Design Process I brainstormed my topics so I could explore the subject in slightly more detail. I tried to break down each title as you can see in my mind map. Level Design Process Brainstorm Game Layout brainstorm I have come up with some questions based on the topics I will be researching; What is a game layout? How are games laid out? What is included within a game layout? What is a level design process? What steps are included in the process of level design? How do you design a level? I looked at synonyms for the words "Layout", "Design" and "Process". For "Layout" I found the f...

Growth Mindset

Growth Mindset I had never heard of Carol Dweck or the growth mindset before. I gained knowledge about this topic through several videos;  Carol Dweck TED Talk, “The Power of Believing That You Can Improve”, “Make Challenge the New Comfort Zone” and  “How to Help Every Child Fulfil Their Potential”. After watching the videos I definitely think I have room to improve when it comes to having a growth mindset. I've learnt that i need to get a bit more out of my comfort zone and push myself further. During sports I have a better mindset because I'm always trying to improve. I want to apply the mindset I have in sports to more things in my daily life. Image 1: Growth VS Fixed Mindset https://blogs.edweek.org/edweek/finding_common_ground/2017/06/misinterpreting_the_growth_mindset_why_were_doing_students_a_disservice.html I'd be very interested to learn more about the growth mindset this semester. I currently find it challenging to break through the stage of gett...

Introduction

Introduction to Me My name is Lauren Murphy and I am 20 years old. I live in Castleknock and have 4 people in my family including myself.  My favourite class last semester was Design Process and Practice. I have a big interest in graphic design and I really enjoyed learning about the principles and rules of design. My goals for this module are to improve my blog writing skills and successfully create a video game. Image 1: Boracay Beach During Summer I went on holiday to The Philippines. I travelled for 22 hours to Manila, where I stayed for 4 days. I then flew to Boracay and Cebu. Each place was amazing and different in their own way. I met a lot of people who were travelling alone around Asia. After listening to some people's experiences, I have decided I will definitely go back to Asia next summer. I also went to Hungary this Summer. Some of my friends were interrailing around Europe so I met them in Budapest for 4 days. I went to the famous Baths and also wen...

Workshop 01

Traffic Lights Hello, this blog will be about our first workshop where we spoke about how traffic lights work. We discussed each-other's opinions on the topic in groups. I am fairly familiar with the topic "Traffic Lights" as I am often a passenger in my friend's or parent's cars. I've watched other people drive for years and I have picked up on the majority of the rules of the road, including how the traffic lights work. I am currently studying for my theory exam so I've already covered a lot of information around this topic. Traffic Lights      https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f4/Traffic_Light_-_Realistic.jpg I thought discussing within the group was very beneficial  as everyone got to say their piece. Interacting with my fellow classmates is always interesting as I always learn something new from at least one person.   I was still slightly unsure about the right of way rule but learned more about it during the lab when...
