Review Week Comments and Feedback

Review Week Comments and Feedback

Hey guys and welcome back to my blog! Only a few weeks left of these so I'm now at the reviewing stage. In this blog I have reflected on the comments and feedback process.

Overall, the quality of comments I have received from fellow students has been great. They've given me constructive criticism on my game ideas as well as my blog layout. I found their comments really helpful and took all of their suggestions on board. Some classmates gave me ideas to help with my game, such as actions for my characters etc., which I found very useful.

I'd like to say the quality of the feedback I have given is good. After giving feedback almost every week, I have definitely gotten better and constructively expressing my opinions. I've also learned a lot and gained some good ideas from analysing other peoples work.
I definitely feel like I got to know people better through their blogs. It was interesting to learn about people who I may not always talk to or see during college. Reading my classmate's introduction blogs taught me a lot about everyone. I'm really happy with my introduction post and the comments people left for me on it. I found out I have a lot in common with some of my classmates. I think (I hope) my blog post gave everyone a slight understanding of the type of person I am.
Looking forward, I need to give myself more time to do the feedback assignments. My time management has definitely gotten better during this process but there is still a lot of room for improvement. I may change the formatting of my blog slightly too.

Hope you enjoyed reading!😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇

Introduction

Introduction to Me My name is Lauren Murphy and I am 20 years old. I live in Castleknock and have 4 people in my family including myself.  My favourite class last semester was Design Process and Practice. I have a big interest in graphic design and I really enjoyed learning about the principles and rules of design. My goals for this module are to improve my blog writing skills and successfully create a video game. Image 1: Boracay Beach During Summer I went on holiday to The Philippines. I travelled for 22 hours to Manila, where I stayed for 4 days. I then flew to Boracay and Cebu. Each place was amazing and different in their own way. I met a lot of people who were travelling alone around Asia. After listening to some people's experiences, I have decided I will definitely go back to Asia next summer. I also went to Hungary this Summer. Some of my friends were interrailing around Europe so I met them in Budapest for 4 days. I went to the famous Baths and also wen...

Game Idea Research

Game Idea Research Hi again! After brainstorming a few ideas for my game, I have decided I'm going to stick to an adventure style. As I've said before in previous blog posts, I gained a lot of inspiration from the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro series. The user of the game will be able to walk around a virtual world. They can collect gems which will add to their score. There will also be different type of keys hidden around the world. Each key will unlock another part of the world to explore. Once the player unlocks an area, they will have to fight small creatures that are walking around. As the players score increases, their strength will increase. This allows the player to fight tougher opponents as the game goes on. The player's health will take a toll if hit by a creature they are fighting. The aim of the game is to beat the creatures and collect all the keys to unlock the entire world.  Image 1:   Minecraft Virtual World I hope to learn enough...

Game Elements

Game Elements This week's readings game me an insight on the questions that must be asked when thinking about; p layers, objectives, rules, resources, game state, information, sequencing, player interaction, theme and games as systems. I found the examples given for each of these very useful and gave me an idea of all the variations there are. Image 1:  https://pxhere.com/en/photo/948574 I think the "Three step process" given for critically analyzing a game will definitely come in hand: "1. Describe the game’s formal elements. Do not interpret at this point, simply state what is there. 2. Describe the results of the formal elements when put in motion. How do the different elements interact? What is the play of the game like? Is it effective? 3. Try to understand why the designer chose those elements and not others. Why this particular player structure, and why that set of resources? What would have happened if the designer had chosen differently?" ( h...
